In a free and publicly open event, the MSU Main Library is screening the film "Dirty Pretty Things" (directed by Chiwetel Ejiofo). Join us starting at 7:00 PM on Thursday, April 5th in the North Conference Room (W449), on the 4th floor of the library's West Wing. This event will be presented by Sandra Logan (MSU Department of English) and is cosponsored by the Center for Gender in Global Context, Global Studies in the Arts and Humanities, the Residential College in Arts and Humanities, and the Department of English. Okwe (Ejiofor) and Senay (Tautou) are two illegal immigrants living illegally on the seedy side of London. They both work sub-minimum wage jobs in a hotel and are severely exploited since they are in jeopardy of deportation by immigration officials at any time. When Okwe accidentally discovers a secret organ transplant operation going on in the hotel he and Senay become embroiled in a dangerous conspiracy that involves Senay offering one of her kidneys in exchang! e for financing to go to America. This grisly thriller shows the extreme means that desperate immigrants will go in order to try and make a better life for themselves.
